Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian media need to meet the information needs of young people by providing quality news that is relevant to their lives, an official said.

"We must respond to the needs of these young people by providing quality and credible news," said Fifi Aleyda Yahya, Director General of Public Communication and Media, in Jakarta on Monday.

"As long as the news is based on facts and aligns with the hobbies and lifestyles of the younger generation, it can all be good news for today's Indonesian youth to consume," she said.

Fifi stated that today's younger generation accesses information more through digital platforms. They generally access information based on their interests and needs.

She encourages media businesses to reach the younger generation with accurate and credible news and the latest information that suits their needs.

Amidst the rapid flow of information, Fifi said the presence of a credible mass media platform is very important in efforts to increase the public's digital literacy and combat hoaxes, misinformation, and disinformation.

To prevent the spread of hoaxes, misinformation, and disinformation, the government has run a campaign to encourage citizens to check the information they receive before sharing it.

The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs conducts cyber patrols and prevents the spread of misleading content on social media platforms. It also asked digital platform managers, especially social media platforms, to moderate content.

"We must do this together, collaborate, so that we can strengthen public trust and the nation's competitiveness in this global arena," Fifi said.
