The cooperation was formalized via a memorandum of understanding (MoU), signed by DPR secretary-general Indra Iskandar and ANTARA News Agency president director Akhmad Munir at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Thursday.
“As the people’s representative, the DPR has the duty and responsibility to inform the public about all our activities, including the processes of legislation, budgeting, and supervision, in a transparent manner,” DPR Deputy Speaker Cucun Ahmad Syamsurizal said in Jakarta.
Syamsurizal, who also attended the MoU signing, acknowledged the crucial role the media plays in effectively bridging communications between the people and their representatives.
The lawmaker emphasized that the DPR is committed to upholding the principles of transparency and accountability while providing technical support to national media outlets to produce quality journalistic products.
“It is important for us all to stick to our commitment to openness and information integration,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Munir described the MoU as a means for both parties to mutually strengthen their organizations, adding that the news agency is determined to expand and improve the quality of its informational content across text, photo, and video formats.
“That way, information sourced from the DPR will be properly published and received by the people,” he said.
Further elaborating on the partnership’s significance, Munir said that ANTARA shares the responsibility to inform the public about the DPR’s supervisory, legislative, and budgetary functions, considering the parliament’s pivotal role in governance.
In addition to the state-run news agency, the DPR has also signed cooperation agreements with Metro TV, TV One, Kompas TV, and CNN Indonesia.
