This policy was decided in a meeting between the ministry and the Poso District Government as a follow-up to the request of the Poso District Head to Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka during his recent visit.
"We conducted technical analysis of the report and documentation that were conveyed," Jamjam Muzaki, an expert staff member of the ministry's Disaster-Safe Educational Unit program, said in a written statement here on Wednesday.
The central government has agreed to revitalize 15 elementary schools, focusing on constructing new buildings and rehabilitating the existing ones, and 5 junior high schools.
For schools that are still carrying out emergency learning outside the classroom, the ministry will immediately send tents to ensure the learning process can continue. Students affected by the earthquake will also get school kit assistance.
Head of the Education Office of Poso, Dedriawan Talingkau, noted that 43 schools, from early childhood education schools to senior high schools, experienced severe damage due to the earthquake.
He explained that some of the buildings cannot be used, even forcing four schools to carry out learning activities outside of the classroom.
To this end, he expressed appreciation for the quick response from the central government.
"With the presence of the revitalization program, we hope the learning activities at the affected schools can recover soon and the children can learn comfortably again," he remarked.
Earlier, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that a 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit Poso District on Sunday (August 17) at 05.36 a.m. local time, with a depth of 10 kilometers.
