The ministry’s Director for Zakat and Wakaf, Waryono Abdul Ghafur, noted that zakat collection growth has outpaced the country’s overall economic growth rate.
“Zakat shows stronger growth than the economy in general. For instance, while the President recently mentioned national economic growth at 5.9 percent, zakat growth reached 17 percent — a remarkable increase,” Ghafur said on Thursday.

Zakat funds are being channeled into healthcare, education, housing, and clothing for the poor, as well as disaster mitigation efforts carried out by the National Zakat Agency (Baznas).
To strengthen its impact, the ministry is improving the capacity of zakat collectors and managers through the Zakat Forum (FOZ), enabling them to better collect, distribute, and manage resources.
The ministry is targeting 10 percent of national zakat potential by 2025. Currently, zakat collection stands at Rp42 trillion (US$2.58 billion), though the maximum potential is estimated at over Rp327 trillion (US$20.06 billion).
To ensure effective distribution, the government works with stakeholders and applies the National Integrated Socio-Economic Data (DTSEN), preventing overlap with other social aid programs.
