Jakarta (ANTARA) - Former 1998 student movement activists, now organized under the 98 Resolution Network, voiced support for President Prabowo Subianto’s policies, saying recent protests echoed his commitment to fighting corruption and protecting public welfare.

Haris Rusly Moti, a leading member of the group, said in a statement here Saturday that Prabowo has taken firm steps to tackle major graft cases, particularly in the natural resources sector.

He noted the president’s move to reclaim 3.1 million hectares of disputed palm oil land from what he described as “serakahnomic (greedynomic)” groups.

“This marks a starting point to improve fiscal governance and advance economic equity,” Haris said.

Haris pointed to Prabowo’s decision to curb excessive bonuses and allowances for state-owned enterprise executives as a concrete effort to improve efficiency, echoing public demands for better use of state funds.

He added that the president was carefully reviewing the Free Nutritious Meals program to enhance its governance and ensure more effective implementation.

According to Haris, Prabowo’s broader economic approach includes reducing foreign debt and imports, addressing fiscal deficits, and redirecting state spending toward productive sectors and low-income communities.

He also emphasized the administration’s ongoing commitment to uphold constitutional rights, including freedom of association, assembly, and expression.

The 98 Resolution Network, Haris said, plans to open dialogue with various national stakeholders to seek inclusive solutions to pressing issues.

Commenting on the death of Affan Kurniawan, an online motorcycle taxi driver who was fatally struck by a police vehicle during protests near the parliament building on Thursday, the group expressed condolences and concern over violence during demonstrations.

Haris called Affan “a martyr of the people’s economic struggle” and urged an end to violent protests, stressing national unity.

He welcomed Prabowo’s statement promising firm action against those responsible for casualties during the August 25–28 demonstrations.

He also noted that online motorcycle taxi drivers only began receiving holiday bonuses under Prabowo’s administration, reflecting support for gig economy workers.

The group urged ride-hailing platforms to lower their commission fees to a maximum of 10 percent to meet drivers’ demands.

The 98 Resolution Network called on all branches of government—central, regional, and legislative—to prioritize clear public communication, avoid provocation, and maintain respectful political dialogue.

“As 1998 activists supporting the Prabowo-Gibran administration, we see demonstrations as part of the democratic process. President Prabowo understands public concerns and is ready to work with the people to build a just and equitable society,” Haris said.
