Jakarta (ANTARA) - Leader of the Gerindra Fraction in the House of Representatives, Budisatrio Djiwandono, said that the fraction agrees on cutting members' incentives, which are deemed excessive and unjust by the public.

"Gerindra Fraction has heard public complaints and demands, particularly regarding incentives for House members, which is deemed unjust and harms public trust. Thus, we are ready to reassess and stop those incentives," he said here on Saturday.

Djiwandono also instructed the party's members in parliament to not make overseas work trips and instead meet people in person to listen to their aspirations.

He also urged all parliamentary members to be more aware of the situation and maintain public trust.

He also confirmed the directive from the party's chairman, Prabowo Subianto, saying that all members must walk with the people and hear their voices as much as possible.

"People's trust is a mandate, and every member must maintain it by showing proper attitude, actions, and statements," he stressed.

On the occasion, he also expressed condolences to all people whose lives were taken or are injured during the protests that spread across the nation.

"In Jakarta, Makassar, and other cities. Victims falling in these protests is not just grief for the families who are left behind, but also sadness for us all as a nation," he stressed.

The tragedies that struck in the past few days are an accumulation of people's growing anger and disappointment, which must serve as a lesson and motivation to reform governance and the system, he said.

"With all my heart, I apologize to all Indonesians. We realize that our democracy stands upon principles of freedom of speech, which is not only ensured but also protected," he said.

On a different occasion, Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, apologized and conveyed plans to evaluate the House's performance following days of demonstrations, resulting in the death of Affan Kurniawan.

Affan was a ride-hailing motorcycle driver who was run over by a Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) tactical vehicle on Thursday (August 28) during a protest in Pejompongan, Central Jakarta.

"First and foremost, on behalf of the members of the DPR and the DPR leadership, I apologize for not being able to perform our duties perfectly," she said after visiting Affan's home with Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung on Saturday.
