Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) have deployed personnel to guard the residence of House of Representatives (DPR) legislator Eko Hendro Purnomo in Jakarta after it was ransacked on Saturday night.

"The TNI and Polri personnel have moved to secure the house," South Jakarta Police Chief Senior Commissioner Nicolas Ary Lilipaly said on Sunday.

He explained that the crowd had outnumbered existing security personnel before storming into Purnomo's residence.

"There were a huge number of people arriving at the site, damaging and ransacking property in three waves," he noted.

According to Lilipaly, the situation has since been brought under control following the deployment of military and police officers.

Videos circulating on social media showed masses gathering outside the lawmaker’s residence, breaking through security, and looting various items, including chairs, lamps, suitcases, beds, and studio speakers.

Some rioters admitted they had learned about the house from information shared online amid nationwide unrest over the past several days.

Purnomo, widely known as comedian Eko Patrio, is currently serving as Deputy Chair of the DPR's Commission VI. He is among several lawmakers under public scrutiny following remarks and gestures perceived as offensive and lacking empathy.

Other parliamentarians facing similar backlash include Ahmad Sahroni and Surya Utama — a celebrity popularly known as Uya Kuya — whose residences were also attacked and looted by protesters.

Purnomo earlier sparked outrage after uploading TikTok videos of himself pretending to be a disc jockey, which many viewed as mocking criticism of lawmakers who were seen dancing and singing during the 2025 Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) on August 15.

The legislators' gestures were widely deemed disrespectful amid ongoing public hardship.

The attack on Purnomo's residence occurred shortly after he posted an Instagram video issuing a public apology alongside Utama.
