Meulaboh (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has reported that a cyclone in Philippine waters is causing moderate to heavy rainfall along the southwest coast of Aceh.

"The weather disturbance caused by the cyclone... can increase the air mass in the Aceh region, thus causing the growth of clouds that cause heavy rain," said forecaster Almira Aprilianti.

Aprilianti added that the rain is expected to affect several districts, including Aceh Jaya, West Aceh, Nagan Raya, Southwest Aceh, South Aceh, Subulussalam City, Aceh Singkil, and Simeulue.

Surface winds in the region are blowing from the west at 5-20 kilometers per hour, with temperatures ranging from 23-31 degrees Celsius and humidity between 70-95 percent.

The agency also noted that wave heights in the Indonesian Ocean are between 0.5 and 1.5 meters.

The BMKG has advised the public to avoid land-burning activities and dispose of cigarette butts properly to prevent land fires.
