Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto urged unity between the Indonesian Defence Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian Police in maintaining national stability, Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin stated.

"On national stability, the President emphasised the need for the military and the police to be united, cooperative, and working together in accomplishing the duty of security and comfort for all Indonesians," Sjamsoeddin stated after a cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace on Sunday.

The president instructed Military Commander General Agus Subiyanto and Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo not to hesitate in taking firm steps against law violations, including attempts to damage public and private properties, he said.

Prabowo also urged them to act resolutely against all matters that may harm peace, public order, and Indonesia's sovereignty, according to the minister.

The TNI Commander, along with its chiefs of staff, was instructed to preserve national security and eradicate natural resources exploitation that did not comply with prevailing laws, he said.

The Police Chief was also told to cooperate with Attorney General ST Burhanuddin to ensure prompt law enforcement against violations in all regions.

The minister stated that Prabowo further ordered the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) to continue with its intelligence work and report any findings to him.

Home Minister Tito Karnavian has also been instructed to coordinate with regional authorities in monitoring economic conditions and activities, Sjamsoeddin said.

"Mr. President will always be with the people in fighting for the people through the support provided by TNI, the police, and all public organisations," he stated.

"This is the message that I need to convey, as mandated by Mr. President, to be acknowledged and recognised by all the Indonesian people," the minister added.

President Prabowo Subianto held a closed-door meeting with political elites at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Sunday to address the unrest that engulfed various cities nationwide last week.

The closed-door meeting was followed by a Cabinet Meeting attended by ministers and state officials in the afternoon.
