Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced that the total losses due to infrastructure damage following demonstrations in several areas of Jakarta reached Rp55 billion (US$3.2 million).

According to him, the damage included two Jakarta Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD), namely PT Transjakarta and PT MRT Jakarta.

Several surveillance cameras scattered throughout the capital were also damaged.

Of this figure, losses experienced by PT MRT Jakarta in infrastructure damage amounted to Rp 3.3 billion (US$194 thousand), followed by damage to Transjakarta infrastructure at around Rp 41.6 billion (US$2.4 million), and damage to CCTV and other infrastructure at Rp 5.5 billion (US$324 thousand).

"The total damage is reaching Rp55 billion," he informed from the Jakarta City Hall on Monday.

He stated that 22 Transjakarta bus stops, both Bus Rapid Transit (BRT/dedicated lane) and non-BRT, plus one toll gate, were damaged as a result of last week's demonstrations.

Of these, six Transjakarta bus stops were burned and looted, and 16 others were damaged and vandalized by irresponsible mobs.

Pramono said his party has started renovation on all damaged bus stops since Saturday (August 30).

"We have been cleaning all the damaged bus stops since Saturday. Hopefully, we can complete both moderate and severe damage by September 8 or 9," he continued.

He informed that the Jakarta Provincial Government is using contingency funds, or reserve funds, set aside in the Regional Budget (APBD) to repair the damaged infrastructure.

"On budget utilization, we have requested permission from the Head of the High Prosecutor's Office for assistance. We are using contingency funds," he confirmed.

His administration had also allocated Rp18 billion (US$1 million) for a one-week free fare program for Transjakarta and MRT services, from August 31 to September 7, 2025.

The estimated losses incurred by the Jakarta Provincial Government were one of the outcomes of the Jakarta Regional Leadership Coordination Forum meeting held on Monday at Jakarta City Hall.

Also present at the meeting were the Speaker of the Jakarta Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), Khoirudin; Jakarta Metro Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri; and Jayakarta Military Commander Major General Deddy Suryadi.
