“Postpone all ceremonial events that seem excessive, especially those that look like parties or music shows. I mean official events, government ceremonial activities,” Tito said after attending the Regional Inflation Control Meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs office here on Tuesday.
He called on officials to be sensitive to the public’s current situation and avoid holding events that could be perceived as wasteful, in order to maintain public trust and sentiment, particularly as President Prabowo Subianto’s administration continues to push for efficiency across various sectors.
According to Tito, organizing ceremonies that provide no real benefit to the community is highly inappropriate, especially under current circumstances.
The instruction was also issued to prevent such activities from sparking public criticism or controversy online.
“Do not let these events get recorded, cut, and go viral. People are facing hardships, and then suddenly there are images of officials partying at government events,” he said.
Beyond official activities, the minister also reminded local officials and their families not to engage in flexing or flaunting luxury.
He further instructed that private events should also be held modestly, both now and in the future.
“Please refrain from showcasing luxury, whether by officials or their families. Even private events at this moment and going forward should be carried out in a simple manner,” Tito said.
