Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian has urged all regional heads and members of local legislative councils (DPRD) to postpone overseas trips in order to stay focused on conditions in their respective regions.

“I have also requested that all overseas travel by regional heads and DPRD members be postponed,” Tito said after attending a Regional Inflation Control Meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs office here on Tuesday.

He explained that regional officials normally need ministry approval before traveling abroad. However, for the time being, such permits will not be issued.

“Normally, permission would be granted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, but for now, all applications will be put on hold,” he stated.

The minister also instructed regional leaders in areas considered vulnerable, based on both national and local assessments, to remain in their regions and coordinate with the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) to maintain stability.

“All regional heads whose areas are deemed vulnerable must remain on site and manage the situation together with Forkopimda,” he emphasized.

In addition, Tito directed regional administrations to postpone ceremonial events that could be seen as wasteful.

“Postpone all ceremonial events that look like extravagance, especially those resembling celebrations or music shows. I am referring to official government ceremonies,” he said.

He stressed that government officials must be sensitive to public conditions and avoid events that could appear wasteful, as this risks undermining public trust, especially at a time when President Prabowo Subianto’s administration is pressing for greater efficiency across sectors.
