Speaking at a press conference at Merdeka Palace on Sunday, following a meeting with party leaders and state officials, Prabowo emphasized that his administration—alongside political parties both in and out of government—is committed to defending the rights of all citizens, especially the marginalized.
“The DPR leadership and party chairmen have conveyed through faction leaders that legislators must stay attentive and act in the public’s interest,” he said.
In response to demands raised during demonstrations on August 25 and 28–30, Prabowo requested the cancellation of legislators’ allowances and a moratorium on overseas working visits.
Protesters had specifically called for the removal of DPR housing allowances, which currently stand at Rp50 million per month.
Addressing public backlash over perceived arrogance and offensive remarks by some DPR members, Prabowo confirmed that party chairmen had taken disciplinary action starting September 1.
The meeting was attended by former President Megawati Soekarnoputri, MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani, DPR Speaker Puan Maharani, DPD Chairman Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, and leaders of government-aligned parties.
Following the meeting, Prabowo chaired a cabinet session into the evening.
Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin later held a press conference alongside TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
