Jakarta (ANTARA) -

President Prabowo Subianto summoned Head of the Development Control and Special Investigation Agency (Bappisus), Aries Marsudiyanto, and Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), Muhammad Herindra, to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.

Wearing a plain white shirt and black trousers, Marsudiyanto arrived at the palace around 12:30 p.m. local time and confirmed that he and the president would discuss the current domestic situation.

“Of course, this relates to recent dynamics and developments. In principle, the president has consistently called for all elements of the nation to unite, as unity is key to Indonesia’s progress,” he told the media.

Marsudiyanto also emphasized that order and security in Jakarta and other regions had been restored following the wave of protests and riots that swept the country over the past week.

About 30 minutes later, BIN Head Herindra arrived wearing a brown batik shirt and carrying a folder. He offered only a brief comment, without revealing details of his upcoming discussion with the president.

“All I can say is that I have information to convey to the president,” he told reporters.

Earlier, on Wednesday (September 3), Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that the government and parliament would meet with representatives of student organizations to accommodate public demands and aspirations.

During an audience with the All-Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM SI) at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta, Dasco noted that the plan was first announced by State Secretariat Minister Prasetyo Hadi.

He stressed the importance of the meeting, pointing out that several points in the viral “17+8 People’s Demands” are directed at the government and fall outside the DPR’s legislative authority.

Compiled from public voices amplified through street protests and social media, the demands include 17 issues to be addressed by September 5 and eight others with a one-year deadline.

Among the 17 immediate demands are: the formation of an investigation team to probe the death of ride-hailing motorcycle driver Affan Kurniawan during a riot; the dismissal of DPR members who display hostile or insensitive behavior; and the elimination of lawmaker allowances.

The longer-term demands call for major reforms of the DPR, police, political parties, and taxation systems, as well as the immediate passage of the Asset Confiscation Bill.
