Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said housing difficulties are among the reasons many young residents hesitate to marry.

"This is what is happening, as portrayed in the Indonesian film Home Sweet Loan, which tells the story of a young woman struggling to save for a house while also supporting her parents and siblings," he said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday.

He noted that the film illustrates how challenging it is for the younger generation to obtain housing. Drawing lessons from it, he expressed hope that the central government’s target of building 3 million subsidized houses can help address these concerns.

"If developers and consumers can access this credit, I believe it will significantly benefit Jakarta residents," Anung said.

He mentioned that the Jakarta government has prepared 19,800 housing units, including newly inaugurated low-cost flats in East Jakarta, and developed an app to ensure equal access to housing programs.

Minister of Housing and Settlements Maruarar Sirait praised Jakarta's support for the program, saying it offers a 5 percent interest subsidy, backed by both state-owned and private banks.

"This is a complete synergy, involving contractors, developers, hardware stores, MSMEs, and banks. It is an extraordinary ‘crowd-in’ initiative," he said, referring to cross-sector collaboration.

Sirait added that the program could drive economic equity by fostering new entrepreneurs in the housing sector, alongside efforts to renovate uninhabitable homes and improve slum areas in Jakarta.
