She also apologized for her remarks and mistakes. The resignation was announced through her Instagram account @rahayusaraswati.
"I hereby announce my resignation as a member of the DPR RI to the Gerindra Party faction," she said in a video posted on her Instagram account on Wednesday.
She explained that her statements, which she admitted had offended people, were made during the ANTARA TV podcast "On The Record."
In the 42-minute podcast, she discussed a wide range of issues from women’s rights to the creative economy.
However, she claimed that more than two minutes of the podcast were cut and edited by parties seeking to provoke public anger. Several parties then circulated the clips on social media.
Saraswati insisted she never intended to demean the efforts of people, especially young entrepreneurs facing difficulties.
She said her remarks were meant to encourage entrepreneurship in the era of digital transformation and creative economy opportunities.
"I understand that my words have hurt many people, especially those struggling to support their families or simply to survive. The fault lies entirely with me," she added.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Gerindra Faction in the House of Representatives, Bambang Haryadi, stated that the party respects her decision.
He explained that Saraswati’s resignation will be processed in line with applicable laws and regulations.
"While awaiting the process, she will be suspended from the House of Representatives," Haryadi said in a statement received here on Wednesday.
He added that the administrative process for her resignation will follow legal procedures, with the Gerindra Faction coordinating with the party’s central executive board (DPP).
