Denpasar (ANTARA) - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka on Friday visited families displaced by floods in Bali, assuring them the government will provide full support for recovery in the disaster-affected areas.

“We are assessing the extent of the damage. The most important thing is for everyone to remain calm. The government, regional leaders, and the head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) are here to help,” Gibran said during his visit to the Banjar Tohpati evacuation post in Denpasar.

The vice president arrived at the site at around 10 a.m. local time and spoke with evacuees who shared their concerns directly with him.

He also met with Bali Deputy Governor I Nyoman Giri Prasta, Denpasar Mayor I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara, and Kesiman Kertalangu Village Head Made Suena to discuss immediate recovery needs.

Evacuees voiced worries about damaged houses and businesses, while urging long-term solutions to floods linked to rapid urban development. One resident noted that drainage systems had been blocked by property projects.

Gibran distributed aid packages containing toiletries, towels, children’s toys, school supplies, instant food, and other items for toddlers.

He left the Banjar Tohpati evacuation post about 30 minutes later to continue visits to other affected areas and shelters across Denpasar.

According to Suena, 70 families – a total of 124 people – were initially affected by the flooding. At present, only 20 families, or 28 people, remain in temporary shelter.

“Their homes are not yet habitable due to water damage and are still being cleaned,” Suena said.
