Jambi (ANTARA) - Deputy Chair of the House of Representatives' (DPR) State Finance Accountability Board (BAKN), Herman Khairon, said the toll road connecting Jambi to Lampung is expected to be fully operational by 2028.

"This interconnection project has been planned for a long time, and we are now seeing its progress. Today, we inaugurated a toll segment in Jambi (Tempino-Simpang Ness)," Khairon said on Sunday.

He acknowledged that developing the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road has not been easy, as it requires strong commitment from all stakeholders, particularly in terms of capital investment to support toll road development.

With the opening of the Simpang Ness toll gate, Jambi residents now have access to two toll entrances, providing an alternative route to avoid congestion in Jambi City.

He affirmed that BAKN continues to push for the acceleration of the Jambi-Palembang toll segment. Once completed, the route will allow smooth travel from Jambi to Lampung.

The toll road is expected to improve the mobility of people, goods, and services, thereby boosting economic activity across Sumatra.

Due to the large-scale funding required, the government is utilizing a state capital injection scheme (PMN). In the future, the project will also involve the sovereign wealth fund Danantara.

Currently, the DPR is coordinating with Danantara to formulate strategies and funding mechanisms for the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road project.

Khairon added that the government is waiting for the integration of Waskita Karya, Wijaya Karya, and Hutama Karya, following directives from President Prabowo Subianto, to undertake strategic projects.

Meanwhile, DPR Commission V member Bakri highlighted ongoing efforts to advance the Jambi-Rengat segment, which still faces challenges related to budget and land acquisition.

He expressed hope that Danantara’s participation could ensure the continuation of toll road development and support new economic growth centers in Sumatra.
