In a statement on Tuesday, she emphasized that higher education and research form the foundation for national progress.
“We want Indonesia’s youth not only to study at leading universities but also to return and bring their knowledge, networks, and fresh visions to build the nation,” she remarked, adding that research and education must have a direct impact on society.
According to her, this is the essence of the collaboration Indonesia seeks with India to generate tangible benefits for communities in both countries.
She noted that beyond political and economic diplomacy, relations between Indonesia and India can be strengthened through intellectual networks and academic partnerships.
Christie highlighted that the Indonesian government has launched various flagship programs, including the Advanced Indonesia Scholarship and the Garuda School program, which prepare students to study at top global universities.
She stressed that these initiatives are designed to develop resilient youth with a global perspective and a strong commitment to national development.
Meanwhile, Ashish Bharadwaj, Founding Dean of BITS Law School in Mumbai, underlined the historical and cultural similarities between Indonesia and India.
He proposed concrete forms of cooperation such as double-degree programs, joint research, student and lecturer exchanges, and hosting the India-Indonesia Thought Leadership Annual Summit in Mumbai next year.
Bharadwaj also suggested the India Immersion Program to give Indonesian students direct experience of India’s economy, culture, and social life.
During the Second India-Indonesia Track 1.5 Dialogue held in Jakarta on Monday, both countries agreed to continue expanding strategic cooperation, particularly in education, research, and strengthening people-to-people ties.
The initiative is expected to serve as a key foundation for deepening bilateral friendship and enhancing the two countries’ roles as emerging powers.
