Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung reported a decrease in traffic congestion along Jalan TB Simatupang following a trial of an additional lane at the Fatmawati 2 toll gate in South Jakarta.

The trial, conducted daily from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. local time, showed promising results. On the second day, more than 600 vehicles passed through the trial lane—an increase of 38 percent compared to the first day.

“This morning, I received a report from the Head of the Transportation Office. The trial on TB Simatupang has been running for two days. On the first day, approximately 474 vehicles used the lane. On the second day, the number rose by nearly 38 percent to over 600,” Anung said at the National Monument (Monas) area on Wednesday.

Although the initial results appear encouraging, Anung stated that he would wait until the trial concludes before deciding whether to extend the policy through the end of October.

The trial is scheduled to run until September 19, utilizing the leftmost lane at the Fatmawati 2 toll gate. During this period, no toll fees are charged for vehicles using the designated lane.

Motorists traveling from Jalan Fatmawati toward Lebak Bulus may continue to use the existing road, he added.

The trial applies exclusively to four-wheeled vehicles and excludes motorcycles and vehicles with more than four wheels, in accordance with Jakarta Transportation Office data showing peak traffic hours between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Earlier, the Jakarta Provincial Government announced plans to implement traffic management strategies to alleviate congestion along TB Simatupang Street in South Jakarta.

Anung noted that the traffic buildup in the area is largely due to several ongoing construction projects.
