“Access to the station must be seamless. That way, public mobility will improve, and the use of public transportation will increase,” Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated in a written release issued in Jakarta on Friday.
He emphasized that the initiative is also crucial for reducing traffic congestion and improving passenger safety and comfort.
On Thursday, Minister Dudy met with Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), Nusron Wahid, at the Karawang High-Speed Rail Station in West Java to discuss the project.
A study by the University of Indonesia’s Polar Research Center projects daily ridership of the Whoosh high-speed train to reach 32,000 passengers.
Of these, 18,000 are expected to travel to and from Halim, Padalarang, and Tegalluar stations, while 14,000 will commute via Karawang Station.
Eight road access points are planned for Karawang Station. These include: access 1 from Toll Exit KM 42+000; accesses 2, 4, 5, and 6 via industrial zone roads; access 3 through the Cibeet Bridge; Accesses 7 and 8 from the northern and southern sides of Trans Heksa Karawang.
To expedite development, Minister Dudy urged all stakeholders to collaborate—particularly in delegating location determination authority from the West Java Regional Land Office to the Karawang Land Office for Accesses 1 through 5.
He also called on the West Java Governor to assign environmental management and monitoring responsibilities for Accesses 3 to 5 to the Public Works Department.
“We invite all stakeholders—local governments and the private sector—to work together in accelerating road access development to and from Karawang High-Speed Rail Station, so we can deliver better public transportation services,” he said.
The site visit was also attended by Deputy Minister of Environment Diaz Hendropriyono, Director General of Railways Allan Tandiono, Director General of Transportation Integration and Multimodal Affairs Risal Wasal, KCIC President Director Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi, and representatives from the West Java provincial government.
