As current ASEAN Chair, Anwar said he first contacted Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, congratulating him on his recent appointment and welcoming his planned visit to Malaysia.
Anwar said the visit would strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations.
The leaders also discussed the latest developments on the Thailand-Cambodia border. Anwar stressed the importance of maintaining calm and preventing minor disputes from escalating into broader tensions.
He urged both countries to resolve any disagreements through the Joint Border Commission (JBC), emphasizing that dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual understanding are key to safeguarding peace in the region.
Anwar also contacted Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to hear Cambodia’s perspective on the border issue. He encouraged both sides to commit to negotiations and avoid unilateral actions.

He reiterated Malaysia’s position that any unresolved matters should be addressed at the negotiating table and reaffirmed ASEAN’s principles of cooperation and peaceful conflict resolution.
Anwar said Malaysia believes that open communication and respect between ASEAN member states remain essential to ensuring regional harmony and long-term security.
Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia over border demarcation have resurfaced in recent weeks, raising concerns within ASEAN. While no major incidents have been reported, leaders are seeking to prevent any potential escalation.
Anwar’s outreach reflects ASEAN’s broader approach to conflict prevention and its emphasis on unity through consensus.
He said Malaysia stands ready to support both sides in finding a peaceful and lasting solution.
As ASEAN Chair, Malaysia continues to advocate for constructive dialogue among member states in addressing regional disputes.
