"3T regions are a priority because nutrition services in these areas are critical. The MBG program is important to suppress stunting, creating jobs, and strengthen the local supply chain," he noted in a statement on Monday.
Therefore, 141 task forces have been formed to accelerate the development of Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) in 3T regions.
Currently, 806 locations have met the requirements for the construction of MBG kitchens in 3T regions.
Of these, 264 kitchens will be built by the Ministry of Public Works (PU), with the remaining 542 units handled by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Karnavian explained.
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo also said that the MBG program is not merely a social assistance but also part of the national development strategy.
This program supports the PU608 target of reducing poverty, improving the investment ratio (ICOR), and encouraging economic growth, he continued.
"The focus of accelerating SPPG development is focused at the 3T regions and the PLBN (National Border Crossing) areas, given the urgent need for nutrition services and the importance of the government's presence in these areas," Hanggodo remarked.
Responding to this, Nutrition Science Professor at IPB University, Prof. Hardinsyah, assessed that the presence of SPPGs in 3T areas could become new economic centers, since previously, underutilized agricultural, fishery, and plantation commodities could be utilized to meet the daily needs of the MBG kitchens.
"If there are five SPPGs in one sub-district, then six months before the establishment, those farmers, livestock breeders, and fishermen must begin preparing production according to demand. This way, the local food supply chain can be strengthened," Hardinsyah said.
He also drew attention to the importance of cross-level coordination.
According to him, SPPG management must be strengthened down to the district, sub-district, and village levels in order to bring the ultimate benefit of MBG to the surrounding community.
