"The two-state solution requires greater global consensus, and no unilateral moves should undermine its foundation," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun at a press briefing in Beijing.
His remarks came a day after the UK, Canada, and Australia announced official recognition of the State of Palestine, ahead of the UN General Assembly.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was the first to declare the move, saying in a video message: “In the face of the growing horror in the Middle East, we are acting to keep alive the possibility of peace and a two-state solution.”
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney followed suit, stating on X: “Canada recognizes the State of Palestine, and we offer our full partnership in building a peaceful future for both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel.”
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also announced recognition, calling it a step toward justice for Palestinians.

“Effective today, Sept. 21, 2025, Australia formally recognizes the independent and sovereign State of Palestine,” he said on X.
Albanese added that Australia acknowledges “the legitimate and long-held aspirations of the Palestinian people to a state of their own.”
Guo said ending the conflict and achieving lasting peace is a shared goal across the Middle East and an urgent task for the international community.
He reiterated China’s position that Gaza is an inseparable part of Palestinian territory and called for an immediate ceasefire and urgent humanitarian support.
“Countries with special influence over Israel must act responsibly,” Guo said, without naming any nation.
He emphasized that "Palestinians governing Palestine" must be the basis of post-conflict arrangements.
China, he added, is ready to work with global partners to support Palestinian rights and push for peace.
France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Andorra and San Marino previously announced similar plans to recognize Palestine at the UN General Assembly.
Around 150 countries have recognized Palestine as a sovereign state.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry welcomed the recognitions, while Israel condemned them as a “gift to Hamas.”
