Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Deputy Industry Minister Faisol Riza on Wednesday called on the nation’s two-wheeler industry to create a 10-year roadmap to address rapid technological disruption and global shifts in mobility.

Speaking at the 2025 Indonesia Motorcycle Show (IMOS) in Jakarta, Riza said the sector must adapt to changes driven by artificial intelligence and digital innovation.

“The government wants the automotive sector, especially two-wheelers, to develop a stricter roadmap as we face accelerating disruption from information technology,” he told attendees.

He outlined a three-phase strategy: a transition and consolidation phase over the next two to three years to strengthen supply chains; a growth phase focused on IT integration and support for electric and new energy vehicles; and a final phase targeting independence and global leadership in two-wheeler manufacturing.

“All stakeholders, including the Ministry of Transportation and the National Police, must share a unified vision to develop this industry,” Riza said.

He noted that several countries are already developing unmanned vehicle technologies, which could soon extend to two-wheelers. He urged Indonesian manufacturers not to fall behind.

“While the internal combustion engine segment remains strong, we cannot ignore the rapid pace of technological change,” he added.

Riza also cited figures from the World Bank and the United Nations Statistics Division showing that Indonesia’s Manufacturing Value Added reached $265 billion in 2024, ranking 13th globally and 5th in Asia.

He said the non-oil and gas processing industry’s contribution to GDP rose to 16.92 percent in the second quarter of 2025, with the two-wheeler sector playing a significant role.

Domestic motorcycle sales reached 4.26 million units during the period, reflecting strong demand and growth momentum.
