Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Ottawa on Wednesday, kicking off his first official visit to Canada where he is set to sign the Indonesia–Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (ICA CEPA), following a working trip to the United States.

The trip marks the start of a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening strategic ties between Southeast Asia's largest economy and Canada.

At Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport, Prabowo was welcomed at the foot of the aircraft stairs by Canada's Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu and Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia Jess Dutton. Indonesia's Ambassador to Canada Muhsin Syihab and Defense Attaché Air Commodore Edwardus Wisoko Aribowo were also on hand.

From the airport, Prabowo and his delegation went directly to their hotel in Ottawa. His itinerary includes a bilateral meeting with Governor General Mary Simon at Rideau Hall and a tête-à-tête with Prime Minister Mark Carney at the West Block of Parliament.

The centerpiece of the visit is the signing of the ICA CEPA, Indonesia's first free trade agreement with a North American partner. Officials say the deal will expand opportunities in trade, investment, and strategic cooperation across multiple sectors.

Prabowo departed earlier Wednesday from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, accompanied by Minister of Investment and Downstream Development Rosan Perkasa Roeslani and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
