President Donald Trump praised President Prabowo Subianto's passionate speech style, noting how he even tapped the podium during his address.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, President Prabowo smiled when asked about Trump’s remarks, describing the U.S. leader as a humorous figure.
“Well, he is a humorous person,” said Prabowo.
The Head of State admitted that he was not fully aware of the gesture of tapping the podium during his speech.
“Honestly, I didn’t even realize I was doing that,” he commented, referring to his hand tapping on the podium.
The praise from Trump came during the Multilateral Meeting on the Middle East, held on the sidelines of the UNGA on Tuesday afternoon. Turning to Prabowo during the gathering, Trump said:
“You too, my friend, great speech. You did a great job. Pounding on that table,” said President Trump.
President Trump described President Prabowo’s speech as firm and energetic, even saying that his communication style was able to capture the attention of world leaders.
For Trump, President Prabowo’s style of tapping the table was a symbol of courage in voicing justice on the international stage.
