Sidoarjo, E Java (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf on Wednesday pledged continued government support for families affected by the collapse of an Islamic boarding school in Sidoarjo, East Java, that killed four people and injured dozens.

“The Ministry of Social Affairs, in collaboration with provincial and district governments, will continue to provide shelters and logistical support to the victims’ families, the students, and the surrounding community,” Yusuf said during a visit to the site.

He said assistance included mattresses, food, clothing, medicine, public kitchens and clean water.

The government would also deploy psychologists to provide psychosocial support to families, he added.

Families of the deceased will receive compensation once the evacuation process concludes and assessments are completed, he said, stressing that the priority remains on rescue efforts.

Yusuf praised rescue workers for working around the clock to save victims.

The Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School collapsed on Monday (Sept. 29) during evening prayers, leaving four dead and dozens injured.

Authorities believe many students are still trapped beneath the rubble, but the exact number has not been confirmed.

Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Mohammad Syafii said that as of Wednesday, 13 victims had been pulled from the debris.
