Jakarta (ANTARA) - An Indonesian lawmaker said the ratification of the revised Tourism Law marks a new era for the sustainable tourism paradigm.

"This reflects a joint response by the DPR and the government to the dynamics and needs of the community for more inclusive and sustainable tourism that provides direct benefits to local communities," said Chusnunia Chalim, Deputy Chair of Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR), in a statement on Thursday.

She noted that the revision introduces four new chapters covering tourism planning, destination management, integrated marketing, and the use of information and communication technology (ICT), including digitalization.

Chalim expressed hope the revised law will drive Indonesia toward quality, sustainable, and community-based tourism.

"The newly enacted Tourism Law presents fundamental changes, where tourism is no longer seen merely as an economic sector, but also as part of human development, culture, and national identity," she said.

She added that the changes are not just technical regulations, but also reflect a paradigm shift, positioning tourism as an instrument of civilization.

The DPR plenary session on Thursday passed the Third Amendment to Law No. 10/2009 on Tourism, strengthening provisions on sustainable development, community-based tourism, digitalization, and creative activities as attractions.
