Head of Inspection Section I of the Soekarno-Hatta Immigration Checkpoint, Patuanta Agum Gumilang Rambe, said in Tangerang on Friday that the two were barred from entering Indonesia after stealing items belonging to a Malaysian passenger during their flight before arriving at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten.
“The two perpetrators stole 750 Singapore dollars in cash and three debit cards belonging to a Malaysian passenger,” he said.
Rambe explained that the theft occurred on a Scoot Airlines flight from Singapore to Jakarta on Thursday (Oct 2).
After discovering the theft, the victim immediately reported the incident to the cabin crew. The report was then passed on to Air Traffic Control (ATC), airport security, and the police.
“Upon arrival, Soekarno-Hatta Police personnel, who had coordinated with immigration, immediately escorted the two Chinese nationals from the gate to the immigration office for questioning,” he said.
Based on the investigation, the two returned the stolen items to the victim.
Although the victim chose not to pursue legal action, immigration authorities determined that the theft constituted sufficient grounds for denying them entry into Indonesia.
“They were denied entry since they had not yet passed through the Immigration Checkpoint. Their passports were stamped with a denied entry mark,” Rambe added.
In accordance with procedure, Scoot Airlines is responsible for returning the two suspects to their departure point in Singapore.
