Jakarta (ANTARA) - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has called on the Indonesian Businesswomen Association (IWAPI) to strengthen synergy in building national food security.

The Ministry, he said, is ready to support IWAPI with technical assistance, including the provision of seeds for horticulture and plantations, as well as aid for poultry and goat farming, to support food security.

“I envision a large consortium of Indonesian women’s organizations working together on nutritious food programs, affordable food movements, and food self-sufficiency initiatives,” Minister Sulaiman stated after receiving IWAPI's visit here on Monday.

He emphasized the strategic role of women in shaping a quality generation through healthy and nutritious food.

Under the nutritious food program, targeting households, schools, offices, religious boarding schools, civil servants, and security personnel, communities are encouraged to meet their own needs for fresh food such as chicken, eggs, fish, milk, vegetables, and tubers.

“If every household produces part of its food needs, we could save up to Rp1,400 trillion annually,” Sulaiman added.

Furthermore, he stressed that food self-sufficiency must start at the household level, and women can contribute to the success of the national movement.

“Indonesia has abundant resources. This is a major task, and women are at the forefront. Productive households will give birth to a strong and independent generation,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, IWAPI Chairwoman Nita Yudi affirmed the association’s commitment to supporting the Ministry through the National Women’s Food Movement.

With over 40 thousand members across 38 provinces, IWAPI sees strong potential in empowering women through agriculture, animal husbandry, and home-based urban farming, while also supporting the government’s Free Nutritious Food (MBG) program.
