Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Cooperatives has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the development and opening of outlets and warehouses operated by cooperatives established under the Red and White Cooperatives (KDMP) program.

In a statement cited here on Wednesday, Deputy Cooperatives Minister Farida Farichah said that expediting the development of such facilities is crucial to enabling newly established KDMPs to commence operations promptly.

“Village cooperatives are projected to operate outlets and warehouses that not only facilitate trade but also serve as logistics centers and platforms for economic education,” she remarked during a coordination meeting with ministries, agencies, and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in Jakarta on Tuesday (October 7).

She highlighted that nearly 16 thousand outlets had already been operational as of Tuesday and that the government aims to further increase this number by mobilizing and utilizing village assets.

“Village assets represent huge potential that cooperatives can optimize to stimulate the emergence of new economic centers in rural areas, ultimately bringing direct economic benefits to residents,” Farichah added.

Highlighting SOEs’ role, she noted that they can assist both in accelerating physical construction and in formulating sustainable business models for village cooperatives.

Farichah explained that once physical construction is completed, the government will focus on strengthening cooperative governance, including through management training, digitization, and integration with national marketing systems.

She added that the Cooperatives Ministry has prepared business mentors and project manager officers to guide village cooperatives and local cooperative offices in optimizing KDMP operations, supported by allocated funding for capacity-building programs.

Meanwhile, SOEs Deputy Minister Kartika Wirjoatmodjo emphasized that valid, synchronized data and consistent mentoring are key to effectively developing cooperative outlets and warehouses.

“If necessary, we can conduct on-field surveys to get a firsthand view of the actual condition of village cooperatives,” he stated.
