"We hope to get many medals from aquatics at the SEA Games in Thailand this December," he said at Gelora Bung Karno Aquatic Stadium in Jakarta on Thursday.
In this regard, the CdM will cooperate with the Indonesian Aquatics Association (Akuatik Indonesia) and the Indonesian National Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) to provide the best swimming facilities and infrastructure for the athletes' preparation.
"Based on discussions with the coaches and athletes, they are very ready to compete at the SEA Games and are very motivated to win," he remarked.
He also affirmed that all the athletes' transportation and accommodation needs have been fulfilled well.
Deputy Chair for Performance Development and Sport Science at Akuatik Indonesia, Wisnu Wardhana, said that to increase medal achievements, the association and the coaching team are carrying out a study to assess the capabilities of competitors at the 2025 SEA Games.
At the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, Indonesia won a total of 276 medals, comprising 87 gold medals, 80 silver medals, and 109 bronze medals, placing the country third in the final medal tally.
Especially from swimming, Indonesia won three gold medals, contributed by I Gede Siman Sudartawa in the men's 50-meter backstroke event, Masniari Wolf in the women's 50-meter backstroke, and Felix Viktor Iberle in the men's 50-meter breaststroke.
Wardhana expressed optimism that the Indonesian swimming team can achieve the target of five gold medals at the multi-sport event, noting that this year's team is one of the best.
For this year's SEA Games, Indonesia will send 22 swimmers, with the team featuring the youngest athlete, Adelia Cantika Aulia (14 years old), and the oldest, I Gede Siman Sudartawa (31 years old).
