Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali recorded 74 flights affected by a power outage on Friday evening.

"The power outage affected 42 international flights and 32 domestic flights," the airport's general manager, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, said on Saturday.

According to him, the impact was only a delay, with operations expected to gradually return to normal after power restoration.

"There were no diversions or cancellations; yesterday's average delay was 30 minutes and one hour," Shahab added.

During the disruption, airport authorities also reported that eight aircraft were stranded on the ground.

He explained that flight traffic management due to the outage was completed early Saturday morning, with the last delayed flight—Garuda Indonesia GIA870 to Incheon—departing at 2:16 a.m. Central Indonesian Time (WITA).

“Our monitoring results from this morning to this afternoon show that all flight activities, passenger services, and drop-off and pick-up flows are running normally,” he said.

The power outage, which occurred at around 6:13 p.m. WITA, affected flight schedules and passenger flow, forcing check-in procedures to be conducted manually.

While managing manual passenger processing, the airport’s technical team worked to restore power, which was successfully brought back online at around 7:17 p.m. WITA.

Shahab apologized for the incident, stating that airport management is inspecting equipment and investigating the cause of the outage at the vital facility.

“We are also evaluating improvements to the quality of our equipment, and our team is currently checking each sector of the airport,” he said.

PT PLN Bali Distribution Unit (UID) reported that the outage was caused by a drop in load on feeders supplying the international terminal.

“Our team detected a decrease in the load on two feeders supplying the international terminal,” General Manager of PLN UID Bali, Eric Rossi Priyo Nugroho, said in a statement.

He explained that the Ngurah Rai power system is supported by five active feeders designed with high reliability to ensure a continuous supply to all airport areas, including both the domestic and international terminals.
