The statement was made in relation to President Prabowo’s attendance at the signing of the Gaza peace agreement, the highlight of the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit for Peace in the Middle East, held in Egypt on Monday (October 13).
“Based on our observation, the President is always seen as someone who brings solutions and shows respect toward all nations at international forums. He is also a figure with a peacemaking spirit,” Sugiono stated upon his arrival from Egypt at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Tuesday (October 14).
According to him, Indonesia’s involvement through President Prabowo’s participation in the Middle East Peace Summit reflects the global community’s trust and strong interest in Indonesia’s role and position.
He added that Indonesia is consistently viewed as a nation that prioritizes world peace, as mandated by its constitution, and continues to advocate for Palestinian independence and sovereignty.
Following the signing of the peace agreement by several world leaders — including United States President Donald Trump, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani — the process of returning prisoners and hostages has begun.
“What took place at the Summit was a concrete step forward. Each stage was carefully discussed, taking into account the modalities and other relevant factors,” Sugiono detailed.
Earlier, President Prabowo described the signing of the peace document as an important milestone in the collective effort to achieve lasting peace.
The Head of State also welcomed positive developments in the region, such as the enforcement of the ceasefire and the planned gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip.
“The ceasefire must come into effect. Israeli troops will withdraw soon, and the hostages are being released in stages,” Prabowo stated.
On that occasion, the President also expressed appreciation for the international trust placed in Indonesia’s participation in the peace process, reaffirming the country’s steadfast commitment to justice and humanity.
