According to the Presidential Secretariat’s live broadcast, President Lula landed amid a downpour at Halim Perdanakusuma Airfield at 5:50 p.m. local time.
Upon disembarking from a Brazilian Air Force aircraft, the Brazilian leader was welcomed by Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman and Chief of Protocol Andy Rachmianto.
Following a brief welcoming ceremony, President Lula was escorted by Minister Sulaiman to his official vehicle, which displayed the national flags of both Indonesia and Brazil, before departing from the airfield.
President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to receive his Brazilian counterpart at the Merdeka Palace on Thursday morning for a bilateral meeting.
After meeting with President Prabowo, Lula is expected to visit a school in Jakarta to observe the implementation of the Nutritious Free Food (MBG) program, one of President Prabowo’s flagship initiatives.
Upon completing his agenda in Indonesia, President Lula will continue his trip to Malaysia to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and the 30th East Asia Summit.
Before departing for Asia on October 21, Lula stated through his official X account @LulaOficial that the visit represents an important step to strengthen Brazil’s position on the global stage and expand trade and diplomatic relations.
He also announced that during his official visit to Asia, the presidential duties would be temporarily handed over to Vice President Geraldo Alckmin.
Meanwhile, President Prabowo had visited Brazil twice during his first year in office - first in November 2024 to attend the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, and again in July to participate in the BRICS Summit, also held in Rio.
During his second visit, President Prabowo held a bilateral meeting with President Lula at the Palacio do Planalto in Brasília.
