Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesia National Library (Perpusnas) is preparing reading materials on nutrition to support national literacy improvement through the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG).

Perpusnas Head E. Aminudin Aziz said here on Saturday that the nation’s intellectual development depends not only on proper nutrition but also on the availability of quality reading materials accessible to the public.

“Children need more than nutritious food, they also need reading that nourishes their minds. Perpusnas facilitates this by providing quality materials and broad literacy access,” Aziz stated.

He emphasized that nutrition and literacy complement each other in building a superior Indonesian human resource.

“We fully support the MBG program. Well-nourished people are stronger, think more clearly, and have the energy to read and learn optimally. This program must go hand in hand with literacy efforts,” he said.

Through synergy between nutrition and literacy, Perpusnas expects MBG to contribute to producing a healthy, intelligent, and literate generation toward Golden Indonesia 2045, or Indonesia becoming an advanced country by 2045.

Despite a reduced budget next year, Perpusnas remains committed to sustaining national priority programs, including the Social Inclusion-Based Library Transformation (TPBIS), student community service with literacy as the theme (KKN Tematik), and literacy volunteers.

TPBIS will expand to 650 additional locations, while KKN Tematik and volunteer programs continue to promote reading culture from villages.

Moreover, Aziz said his side continues rescuing and digitizing ancient manuscripts, focusing on the most urgent materials due to fiscal constraints.

Perpusnas ensures all digital collections are freely available through platforms like iPusnas and Khastara, offering quality materials for children and the public to strengthen literacy.
