Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia recorded 11.43 million foreign tourist arrivals from January to September 2025, reflecting an increase of 10.22 percent compared to the same period in 2024, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS).

This was announced by the Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics at BPS, Pudji Ismartini, in a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.

According to her, the average spending per foreign tourist visit in the third quarter of 2025 stood at US$1,297, higher than the average in the same period last year of US$1,199.

The greatest percentage of foreign tourist expenditure was for accommodation at 37.31 percent, followed by food and beverages at 19.4 percent, shopping and souvenirs at 10.98 percent, and entertainment at 8.78 percent.

She noted that, especially in September 2025, the total number of foreign tourist arrivals reached 1.39 million, an increase of 9.04 percent year-on-year.

Of the total, tourists from Malaysia accounted for the largest number, at 19.53 percent, followed by Australia at 11.72 percent, and Singapore at 8.55 percent.

Furthermore, Ngurah Rai International Airport, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, and Hang Nadim International Airport remained the main entry points for international travelers.

BPS recorded that the room occupancy rate of star-rated hotels in Indonesia reached 50.16 percent in September 2025. Several provinces, such as Bali, South Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan, still recorded high occupancy rates, each above 53 percent.

BPS also recorded an increase in Indonesians traveling abroad, with 695.9 thousand trips recorded in September 2025, reflecting an increase of 5.25 percent compared to September 2024.

The favorite destination countries for these Indonesian tourists were Malaysia at 28.92 percent, followed by Saudi Arabia at 18.77 percent, and Singapore at 13.09 percent.

As a key foreign exchange earner, Indonesia’s tourism sector is targeting around 14.6 million to 16 million foreign tourist arrivals in 2025.
