Prabowo arrived at 11:45 p.m. and stood before the Garuda Pancasila Monument with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka before ascending the steps to lay a wreath.
The wreath bore this year's National Heroes Day theme: "My Heroes, My Role Models. I Will Carry On Your Struggle."
National Heroes Day is observed every November 10 to honor Indonesia's resistance during the Battle of Surabaya on November 10, 1945, against foreign forces seeking to undermine the country's independence.
Prabowo then delivered a short speech, offering prayers for those who died in the struggle for Indonesia's independence and sovereignty, and urged citizens to remember their sacrifices.
"We should never forget their service and heroic acts," he said before leading a moment of silence accompanied by the song "Mengheningkan Cipta" (A Moment of Silence) by Truno Prawit.
After the reflection, Prabowo led attending officials in saluting the fallen heroes before concluding the ceremony at 11:56 p.m. He departed the cemetery as the day turned to Monday.
The National Heroes Day ceremony was attended by nearly all members of the Red and White Cabinet and leaders of state institutions.
Among the attendees were National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, National Armed Forces Commander General Agus Subiyanto, Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali, and Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Tony Harjono.
All participants wore black suits, black peci hats, and blue ties, matching the attire of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran.
