“Happy 2025 National Heroes Day, November 10. Let us carry on our heroes’ struggle through active participation in national development,” he wrote in a post on the Cabinet Secretariat’s official Instagram account, as cited in Jakarta on Monday.
Wijaya emphasized that the nationalist and patriotic values embodied in the struggles of Indonesia’s freedom fighters must endure in the era of independence, serving as a moral compass for the nation to move forward.
“Our heroes live on in our memories and continue to guide us in every step we take,” he remarked.
In a separate post, Wijaya highlighted the National Heroes Day ceremony led by President Prabowo Subianto at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta on Sunday night (November 9), describing it as a solemn tribute to the service, struggle, and sacrifice of Indonesia’s heroes.
President Prabowo arrived at the cemetery at around 11:45 p.m. local time to preside over the ceremony and laid a wreath at the Garuda Pancasila Monument bearing this year’s National Heroes Day theme, “My Heroes, My Role Models. Continuing Their Struggle.”
Accompanied by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Prabowo began his address by urging the public to respect and reflect upon the devotion and sacrifices of those who fought for Indonesia’s independence and sovereignty.
“Let us commemorate our fallen heroes, especially those who gave their lives in the resistance against foreign forces that sought to undermine Indonesia’s declared independence,” he said, referring to the Battle of Surabaya on November 10, 1945.
The President reiterated the importance of honoring the heroes’ legacy before leading a moment of silence to close the ceremony.
He concluded the event by saluting the heroes resting at the cemetery, joined by ministers, agency heads, and military and police commanders.
