Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday inaugurated the Emirates-Indonesia Cardiology Hospital (RS KEI) in Surakarta, Central Java, describing it as a symbol of friendship between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In a live speech broadcast on YouTube, he said UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan generously built the hospital out of deep care and concern for Indonesia.

"I welcome the presence of the Emirates-Indonesia Cardiology Hospital with great pride and happiness," Prabowo said. "This hospital is a symbol of friendship between the two nations."

He said RS KEI is equipped with some of the most sophisticated medical technology in Indonesia and is the only hospital with such equipment in Central Java.

Prabowo added that only four hospitals in Indonesia currently have technology as advanced as that installed at RS KEI.

He expressed hope that the hospital’s facilities would become a benchmark for hospitals nationwide by reducing fatality rates, improving access to treatment, and serving as a center for innovation, education, and research.

He said the hospital offers new hope for heart disease patients to receive treatment in Indonesia instead of seeking medical care overseas.

Prabowo closed his remarks by extending greetings to the UAE President, whom he described as "a good friend and a very good brother to Indonesia."

"We are deeply grateful and appreciate his attention, care, and commitment to helping Indonesia in its national development," he said.

Construction of RS KEI began in 2023 to improve medical services for heart disease, one of Indonesia’s leading causes of death.

The groundbreaking ceremony was led by Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin and UAE Ambassador Abdulla Salem Obaid AlDhaheri on November 27, 2023.
