Tasikmalaya (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Social Affairs has deployed a team to assess the implementation of Sekolah Rakyat, the free-tuition school program, to ensure it meets expectations, an official said on Friday.

During a visit to Sekolah Rakyat Integrasi 41 in Tasikmalaya, West Java, Idit Supriadi Priatna, secretary of the ministry's Directorate General of Rehabilitation, said the boarding-school program remains in its pilot phase and requires a thorough evaluation.

The assessment covers facilities, infrastructure, the adequacy of beds, room size, human resources, and other supporting aspects, he added.

Priatna said the evaluation will also review student conditions. Those found to be facing serious issues will receive immediate support from institutions under the ministry.

"If there are students with significant problems, they will be transferred to our social service centers," he said.

He added that no major student-related issues have been reported nationwide and that educators have received proper training.

"We are preparing the educators well. Principals and teachers are being trained, and now dormitory supervisors and guardians are also being trained. Remember, Sekolah Rakyat is new, not an old program," he said.

Tasikmalaya Mayor Viman Alfarizi Ramadhan said the city has been operating Sekolah Rakyat at a temporary site.

"Several facilities will be fulfilled soon, and we are moving toward establishing a permanent Sekolah Rakyat, with land already prepared," he said.
