“The Nurtanio Award and the Nurtanio Pringgoadisuryo Memorial Lecture aim to honor Indonesian figures whose ideas and contributions have inspired advances in aviation and space science and technology,” said Arif Satria, Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), on Thursday.
Hasbi, who also serves as Head of the Satellite Technology Research Center under BRIN’s Aviation and Space Research Organization, has played a leading role in several Indonesian satellite programs, including LAPAN-A1/LAPAN-TUBSAT, LAPAN-A2, and LAPAN-A3.
Born in Biak, Papua, on October 25, 1976, Hasbi earned his doctoral degree with summa cum laude honors from Technische Universität Berlin in aerospace engineering. He also holds a professional engineering certification from Hasanuddin University.
Beyond his own research, Hasbi has mentored student-led satellite projects such as Surya Satellite-1 and RIDUSAT-1, marking important milestones in Indonesia’s growing space technology sector.
Meanwhile, the 2025 Nurtanio Pringgoadisuryo Memorial Lecture was delivered by Premana Wardayanti Premadi, former Director of the Bosscha Observatory (2018–2023).
Premadi, who earned her PhD in physics from the University of Texas at Austin**, has conducted extensive astrophysics research and previously served as a postdoctoral researcher at Tohoku University, Japan.
The Memorial Lecture serves as a scientific forum showcasing figures who have made significant contributions to Indonesia’s science and technology development.
The award and lecture are named after Air Rear Marshal (Posthumous) Nurtanio Pringgoadisuryo, a pioneer of Indonesia’s aerospace industry and designer of the country’s first all-metal aircraft, including the Sikumbang, Kunang-kunang, Belalang, and Gelatik.
