In a statement on Monday, Basarnas Head Mohammad Syafii reported that this figure was the result of a daily recapitulation of a series of operations carried out by joint personnel from Basarnas, the military, the National Police, volunteers, and local government authorities.
"The success of these safe evacuations is inseparable from the role of the SAR (Search and Rescue) team, which was supported by more than 5,000 personnel in North Sumatra and hundreds in Aceh and West Sumatra since the operation began on November 25," Syafii informed.
According to him, the total number of victims in Aceh exceeded 1,000, including evacuees from remote areas such as Mane, Geumpang (Pidie District), and Seulimeum (Aceh Besar District), which were carried out by land, river, and air.
Meanwhile, in North Sumatra, the largest evacuations took place in Central Tapanuli and South Tapanuli, with more than 3,000 residents affected, including hundreds evacuated by helicopter.
West Sumatra also recorded thousands of residents evacuated from flash flood and landslide areas, particularly in Agam and West Pasaman Districts, which suffered the most severe residential damage.
Syafii expressed appreciation for all government agencies and community groups involved in the rescue operations, while adding that search and rescue operations would continue, given the continued reports of missing residents in several districts.
The Basarnas Operations Control Center previously reported a total of 33,620 residents affected, with 447 fatalities and 399 still missing. Of that number, as of Monday, the seventh day of the emergency response, 33,173 people had been safely evacuated.
In the same operation in Aceh Province, Basarnas had evacuated 1,146 residents, with 102 having died and 116 still missing. A total of 165 Basarnas personnel were deployed to support the Banda Aceh SAR Office.
In West Sumatra, 29,445 residents were affected with 128 fatalities. Operations focused on isolated villages and large landslides that hampered rescue teams' access to search areas.
Meanwhile, North Sumatra recorded the most widespread emergency situation, with 3,029 residents affected, 217 dead, and 168 still missing. Basarnas deployed helicopters, ships, drones, rubber boats, and 121 personnel to support the operation.
