Nusantara (ANTARA) - The legislative and judicial development project in Indonesia's new capital Nusantara (IKN), has entered its construction stage following the signing of 20 contract packages for the second phase (2025-2029).

The second phase initially saw the signing of 12 project packages in the area. On Thursday (Dec 4), eight more contract packages were signed, bringing the total to 20, and the construction phase now underway.

"The eight contracts signed on Thursday, two days ago, cover five work packages for the legislative building and office complex, consisting of 16 buildings on a 41.81-hectare plot," said Basuki Hadimuljono, Head of the IKN Authority, in IKN on Saturday.

Another contract signed on the same day was two work packages for the construction of the judicial building and office complex, consisting of four buildings, built on a 15.15-hectare plot.

Additionally, a supporting office construction package consists of three buildings for the Phase II IKN Authority Office, totaling 2.9 hectares, and three buildings for the Phase I IKN Police Station, totaling 3.07 hectares.

"We emphasize the importance of quality in all stages of construction, aesthetics, and environmental sustainability. The phase 2 development must be better than before. I believe the development will be an example for the world," he said.

He continued that the contract signing at the IKN marks a significant step in developing the legislative and judicial areas toward the political capital in 2028, while also strengthening the acceleration of phase 2 of the IKN's development.

"To date, 20 of the 28 phase 2 (2025-2029) work packages have been signed, consisting of 14 physical construction packages and 6 construction management/supervision packages," he added.

The construction of the legislative and judicial buildings and areas requires a budget of Rp12 trillion, paid for on a multi-year basis.

"The development of the legislative and judicial areas is part of a series of priority government projects to prepare modern, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure in the new capital city," Hadimuljono said.
