Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Hotels and other accommodation providers on Bali have prepared a range of indoor activities as alternative options amid forecasts of bad weather during the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

“Of course, indoor and outdoor atmospheres differ. We are mitigating by creating more attractive indoor activities to draw tourists so the economy can keep moving,” The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) of Bali Chair Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati said on Sunday.

He explained that offering engaging indoor programs for guests is one of the measures taken by tourism operators to anticipate unpredictable weather and maintain Bali’s appeal for both domestic and international visitors.

Citing recent weather patterns across Indonesia and the natural disasters that struck parts of Sumatra, he noted that such developments could influence travel interest, particularly among domestic tourists.

Despite these concerns, foreign arrivals remain strong, with 20,000 to 23,000 international visitors entering Bali each day.

Beyond preparing for heavy rainfall, Sukawati said Bali’s hotels have also partnered with the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) to obtain disaster‑mitigation certification focused on earthquake preparedness.

The certification process includes staff training and assessments of infrastructure readiness.

“Hotels in Bali have been working with BPBD to obtain certification to anticipate earthquake risks,” he said.

He added that hotel occupancy is expected to rise by up to 20 percent during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

In early December 2025, Bali remains in its low season, with occupancy rates averaging below 60 percent.

Visitor numbers are projected to increase from the third week of December through the first week of January, marking the island’s peak holiday period.

Hotels have prepared a variety of year‑end programs for guests, including themed dinners, music performances, and other entertainment offerings.
