"The Deputy Minister of Creative Economy and I are designing the rehabilitation of micro, small, and medium enterprises and cooperatives for the post-emergency phase, and empowerment measures are being prepared," Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, said here on Tuesday.
He noted that in the rehabilitation mechanism currently developed by his ministry, community-based coffee production will be among those prioritized.
"In the post-emergency phase, roughly two to three months from now, we will prepare empowerment and economic recovery programs for micro, small, and medium enterprises, as well as local economic products," he remarked.
Devastating floods and landslides hit Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra in late November 2025 following high-intensity rainfall.
According to data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), as of December 9, the death toll from the disasters had reached 962, while 291 people were still missing.
The Indonesian government has asserted that it remains strong in handling the disaster in Sumatra and therefore does not yet require assistance from external parties.
In collaboration with volunteers, it has continued to work maximally in managing the disaster situation in the three provinces, with the process of evacuation and aid distribution continuing to be accelerated.
BNPB Head Suharyanto has reported that the estimated cost to repair the damage caused by the floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra reached Rp51.82 trillion (around US$3.1 billion).
This estimate is likely to increase in line with the developments on the ground.
