"We have conducted a case review and found convincing evidence, which led to the declaration of the driver as a suspect," Chief of the North Jakarta Metro Police Senior Commissioner Erick Frendriz told the press in Jakarta on Friday.
He noted that police confirmed AI was not intoxicated during the incident, as verified through tests. However, investigators found the suspect was severely fatigued, having gone to bed at 4 a.m. before starting work at 5:30 a.m.
“The driver will be charged under Article 360 of the Criminal Code for negligence causing injury, which carries a potential prison sentence of seven years,” Frendriz stated.
He further remarked that the North Jakarta Police have questioned 10 individuals, including victims, school representatives, and witnesses to the crash.
"Moreover, we have been in cooperation with the Jakarta Transportation Office to unravel this case," he said.
Meanwhile, Dardi Wahyudi, a representative from the North Jakarta Transportation Office, highlighted that the vehicle involved was in prime condition, as it was released in 2023.
"We have inspected its braking system and conducted a road test, both of which showed positive results. In other words, the car is roadworthy and free of faults," he affirmed.
