Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Head Dadan Hindayana has expressed support for the ongoing police investigation into an incident in which a Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program delivery car crashed into a school in Jakarta.

The vehicle, identified as a minivan, reportedly sped through the gate of Kalibaru 01 Public Elementary School in North Jakarta and struck one teacher along with several pupils who were seated in the schoolyard during a literacy activity at around 6:38 a.m. local time.

"This incident is a crucial point prompting us to conduct evaluations. Therefore, we fully support the police investigation and will bear all the medical expenses for the victims," Hindayana stated in Jakarta on Thursday.

He affirmed the BGN’s commitment to assisting the police in the investigation to prevent similar incidents in the future.

"Our top priority now is to ensure that all victims receive the finest medical treatment and to provide full support for their families," he remarked.

Meanwhile, BGN Deputy Head Nanik Sudaryati Deyang assured the public that the agency will conduct thorough safety-centered evaluations of MBG distribution, including the roadworthiness of delivery vehicles and their drivers.

“Legal proceedings will proceed in accordance with regulations. The BGN will strengthen its oversight, including by verifying drivers and vehicle providers, as well as ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures,” she affirmed.

Head of the North Jakarta MBG Kitchen Sahrul Gunawan Siregar clarified that the car involved in the incident was being driven by a substitute driver when it crashed into the school.

The Jakarta provincial government has also responded to the crash. Deputy Governor Rano Karno stated that his side is responsible for covering medical costs for the victims, consisting of 11 male pupils, nine female pupils, and one male teacher.

"Praise be to God, no fatalities are recorded. All victims survived the crash, with only four to five individuals requiring special treatment," he said after visiting the victims at Koja Hospital, noting that those with lighter injuries have been discharged.

Chief of the North Jakarta Police Senior Commissioner Erick Frendiz confirmed that the police have commenced an investigation into the case.

He stated that his side will remain open and professional should any criminal elements be found, and that legal proceedings will continue in accordance with regulations.
