Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian team has emerged as the overall champion of wushu at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, after bagging a total of nine medals, comprising five gold, three silver, and one bronze.

With this achievement, the team managed to keep their overall champion title, having won it in the preceding SEA Games edition as well.

"I am happy and touched that I could contribute a gold medal to the Indonesian contingent. Moreover, this is my debut in an international multi-event," Indonesian wushu athlete Patricia Geraldine said in an official statement on Tuesday.

Geraldine won gold from the women's Changquan - Jianshu - Qianshu, while two other gold medals were won by Tharisa Dea Florentina from women's Sanda 56kg and Marbun Samuel from men's Sanda 65kg.

Furthermore, one gold was won by Ahmad Ghifari Fuaiz, Ahmad Ghozali Fuaiz, and Terrence Tjahyadi from the men's Duilian Bare-handed event.

Meanwhile, veteran athlete Edgar Xavier Marvelo contributed another gold by triumphing in the men's Changquan - Jianshu - Gunshu.

Besides helping Indonesia become the overall champion of wushu, this medal haul has also exceeded the target of three gold medals set by the Ministry of Youth and Sports for this edition of the Southeast Asian multi-sport event.

The Deputy Treasurer of the Indonesian Wushu Executive Board (PB Wushu Indonesia), Gunawan Tjokro, revealed that with its world-class athletes, the Indonesian wushu team received much praise from officials of other countries.

Specifically, Tjokro expressed appreciation to the General Chairman of PB Wushu Indonesia, Airlangga Hartarto, who continuously monitored the athletes' performance throughout the 2025 SEA Games.

The 33rd SEA Games is held from December 9 to 20 in Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla, Thailand.

As of Tuesday, Indonesia holds the second position in the medal standings with a total of 191 medals, comprising 59 gold, 67 silver, and 65 bronze.
